In California, the date is October 7, but back home it's October 8, 2007 and that marks the hundredth day since I moved to Victory Christian Fellowship - Alabang. The decision to move taught me so much spiritually, and you can read about that in a
previous post.
But the move itself has taught me so much as well. It's true what people say that you can go into a situation expecting to be the one helping people, only to find that you are constantly being ministered to yourself.
I don't have a real point here but some random things I'm thinking about.
It's cool learning from different leadership styles.
In
VCF-Ortigas, I served under
Pastor Ferdie Cabiling. In VCF-Alabang, our senior pastor is
Pastor Ariel Marquez. I think one would be hard-pressed to find two more different styles than these two men. I value the time I get to spend with them because I see the heart they have and their passion for God and His kingdom. And I'm grateful that both of them spend their time so generously to develop young leaders.
It's FAR!!!!One day I want to clock how much of my day, week, or month is spent on the road. The good thing is it allows me plenty of time to listen to music or preachings, pray, think, and even talk with friends. I don't mind the late night drives when there's hardly any traffic. It's actually very relaxing. But the rush hour ones or the Saturday ones can be quite "challenging." (
And by challenging I mean I hate it. Hahaha!)
It's fun having friends in different areas.I kinda miss some of my friends in Ortigas, (like the singles and youth, and my small group especially), so I do my best to catch up from time to time. But I'm so thankful for new friends in Alabang also. It's just awesome knowing so many great people. It feels so rich. That's the only way I can describe it.
I've got a favorite parking space now.
And that's one of the ways I know I'm adjusting.
It's so great working with the pastoral and leadership team!Besides the senior pastor, it's also great meeting with the great team there: Pastors
Sonny,
Jansen,
Eugene, Jun,
Mark,
King,
Francis, and
Mike,
Stefan,
Miel,
Rey... (
Wow, that's a lot of links.) And if I missed someone, I'm so sorry. I still don't have everyone's names down. But it's great working with men and women who are dedicated to the same cause.
I love working with the youth! The youth services are really fun, and the planning meeting on Sunday is one of the highlights of my week. It's cool knowing these really creative and passionate young people!
Anyway, I also started my serious blog already. And it is at
http://seriousjoe.blogspot.com. My first post is a lesson I learned during my first week in Alabang, entitled
A Young Leader's Prayer. I hope I can keep this site regular.
